Location – opposite the football stadium: Emergency entrance is 200m past the main hospital entrance

The CAJA state run district hospital for Perez Zeledon – has a full emergency service but will arrange transfer to specialist tertiary services in San Jose for injuries beyond its capacity. Foreign nationals will be treated in Emergency regardless of their immigration status; those without cedulas (who are legally obliged to be a member and make monthly payments) will be charged for treatment

Location – on the right, 200m south of the football stadium on main road to Dominical

A private medical service under Director, Dr Johnny Arguello Castro

Provides immediate emergency service with access to diagnostic and laboratory services, will call in specialists as necessary. Able to provide short stay admission and observation, referral to state services, and domiciliary visits

Open – 7.00 a.m. to 10.00 p.m.

Hospital Cliníca El Labrador – Tel: 2772 2838 / 2772 6464 / 2772 5353

Location – On highway opposite MUSOC bus depot

Private medical centre accommodating offices of a range of medical specialists as well as a small hospital with theatre / operating facilities. Provides a staffed emergency service and calls in specialists (e.g. orthopaedic surgeons) as necessary.

Hospital Las Americas – 2771 7115

Location – in former Labrador clinic building, 25m north of the football stadium and district hospital

Recently opened (July 2018) with 24 hour emergency service and operating theatre facilities. Houses consulting rooms for a range of specialists. Will call in relevant specialists to deal with emertencies.

Note:

In the sad event of you dealing with a death, be aware:

  • In cases of traumatic, accidental or unexplained death, a body can not be moved until the death is certified by a Judge (coroner) appointed by the legal system, even if the police service has been or is in attendance

  • There are no cremation services in San Isidro. The Club has produced a document ‘Dealing with Death, Burial and Cremation in Costa Rica. This includes information on the discount available to Club members from Polini funeral services
